Flu and Tetanus (Tdap) Vaccines

At Clínica Hispana Nueva Salud Little York the flu vaccine and the tetanus toxoid are given, walk-in and with care in Spanish.

Which vaccines are available?

• Influenza (flu): every season, from 6 months of age
• Tetanus toxoid (Td/Tdap): a booster every 10 years, or sooner with a dirty or deep wound

If you need other vaccines, the clinic's medical team will tell you where to get them. For the residency process, the vaccines USCIS requires are given as part of the immigration medical exam.

When is the flu shot due?

Ideally between September and October, before the virus starts circulating heavily, although it is still useful later in the season. The CDC adult immunization schedule sets out the recommendations by age and condition.

It matters especially if you are 65 or older, or have diabetes, asthma, heart or kidney disease, if you are pregnant, or if you live with a baby under 6 months.

When is the tetanus booster due?

The booster is given every 10 years. It is brought forward for a deep or dirty wound, with soil or rust, when the last booster was more than 5 years ago. If you do not remember when the last one was, say so: boosting is safer than falling short.

• Your vaccination card, if you have one, even from another country
• Your medication list
• If you have reacted to a vaccine before, the details of what happened

What to expect afterwards

A sore arm, some redness and sometimes tiredness or a slight fever for a day or two. That is the normal immune response. Say beforehand if you have a fever that day, if you are on treatment that lowers your defenses, or if you have had a severe allergic reaction to a vaccine: those cases are assessed first.

Walk-in and no insurance
