Ultrasound uses sound waves to see organs from the inside. It gives off no radiation, does not hurt and is done at the clinic itself, walk-in.
Which types of ultrasound are available?
- Pelvic: uterus, ovaries and bladder. Used for pain, irregular bleeding or suspected fibroids or cysts
- Abdominal: liver, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas and spleen
- Pregnancy: confirmation, gestational age and follow-up
- Kidney and urinary tract: for repeated infections or suspected stones
How do I prepare?
Preparation changes with the study, and getting it wrong means repeating it:

Ask which study you are having when you book, because that decides whether you eat breakfast or drink water.
What is the study like?
Gel is applied to the skin and the transducer is moved across the area. It takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on what is being studied. It does not hurt, although a full bladder can be uncomfortable. You can return to your routine as soon as it ends.
What can and cannot an ultrasound see?
It sees solid and fluid-filled organs well: uterus, ovaries, liver, gallbladder, kidneys. It does not travel well through air or bone, so it is not used to study the lungs or gas-filled bowel. When another technique is needed, the clinic's medical team tells you and hands you the report to take with you.
When is it urgent?
Sudden severe abdominal pain, flank pain with fever, or heavy bleeding during pregnancy. In those cases do not wait: go to the emergency room.
Walk-in and no insurance
Walk-ins are seen Monday through Sunday, 9 AM to 9 PM. The pelvic ultrasound is done in the same gynecology visit when the consultation calls for it. Promotions include the complete women's check-up with ultrasound for $179.
